The HuffingtonPost.com Home section has some occasionally good ideas for rental apartments. This post had some great ideas to spruce up your bathroom. No longer is it enough to simply have a few magazines in your bathroom. It should be a room that gets you started on the right foot every day and let’s you calm down at the end of the day.

Although usually geared towards people who own their own house or condo, some of the ideas in the HuffPo article are just as good in rentals. But a word of cauti0n first; you must get your landlord’s approval (preferably in writing) to make most cosmetic changes to your apartment. This is particularly true if you are replacing a fixture that the landlord provided, such as a mirror or kitchen appliance.

Let’s take a look at some of their suggestions:

Paint your bathroom:

Here’s a suggestion that will need your landlord’s approval, but it’s also one that most landlords will approve of. Make sure that before you ask your landlord, you know the colors you want to paint. Anything too bizarre will be turned down.

Add Art:

Have a wall that isn’t being used for anything else in your bathroom? Hang some art. This is a suggestion that does not need a landlord’s approve in apartments for rent in New York City.

Hang A New Shower Curtain:

NYC apartments for rent don’t come with shower curtains, so no landlord approval is necessary for you to add a curtain that fits your personality.

Change or Add New Towel Bars:

One towel bar is usually not enough. All of the big box home stores have towel bars that you can add to your bathroom without having to remove the one that came with the apartment. Here are some from Bed Bath & Beyond.

Replace The Mirror:

Definitely get your landlord’s permission for this. Then head on over to Pier 1 for a great selection of stunning mirrors that will utterly revive your bathroom.

Use Glass Jars For Storage:

Sometimes it’s the little things that count.

Incorporate Shelving:

Do NYC apartments for rent ever have enough shelves? Practically never. But don’t settle for merely functional shelves. Go for something attractive.

Bring In Flowers And/Or Candles:

Relax with candles at the end of the day or on a cold weekend while you’re in a warm tub.
