Where can you have the wonderful Riverside Church, the International House, Grant’s Tomb, a variety of theological seminaries and the Manhattan School of Music all within four blocks of each other – and New Yorker’s don’t know the neighborhood’s name? Why Morningside Heights, of course. One of the undiscovered places to still find affordable apartments in nyc that only minutes from Midtown Manhattan.
Wikipedia has a fascinating article about this neighborhood, from it’s role in the Battle of Harlem Heights in 1776 through the ups and downs of this predominantly middle class area. It’s also know as the Academic Acropolis, for the confluence of major academic institutions, such a Columbia University, Barnard College, Union Theological Seminary, New York Theological Seminary, Jewish Theological Seminary of America, Manhattan School of Music, Teachers College, Bank Street College of Education, St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s School, The School at Columbia University, Bank Street School for Children, The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine, and for the younger residents, Columbia Greenhouse nursery school. NASA‘s Goddard Institute for Space Studies is also located in the neighborhood, directly above Tom’s Restaurant in a building owned by Columbia University.
The following are several new apartments for rent for Morninside Heights that have recently come into RDNY.com’s inventory. All are available as of 1/15/13.

About three blocks to Riverside Park and the General Grant National Memorial, the largest tomb in North America. Grant’s Tomb (as it is commonly called) is not only the final resting place of the General and wife, but a memorial to his life. He was the genral who won the U.S. Civil War and kept the union whole. It’s a very pretty memorial and well worth a visit.
