The Most Expensive Neighborhoods in NYC

New York has no shortage of expensive apartments. But some neighborhoods are in a category of their own because it’s almost impossible to find reasonably priced rentals (or sales) in those neighborhoods. The two clearest examples of this is the West Village and Soho. If you’re looking for an affordable apartment rental in Manhattan, look elsewhere.

By contrast, when it comes to affordable Manhattan apartments, the Upper East Side has got some of the cheapest rents in the city. The average rent for a one bedroom in the ‘hood will run you $2,946, which is lower than abodes in the East Village, the Lower East Side, Williamsburg, and, well, pretty much every sought-after neighborhood.

A survey that I did today of real estate websites and blogs confirms what we’ve been talking about:

Oh this post!!! *cries*. I just got my new lease and it keeps me wondering how long I can stay in NYC. I love this city so much, but she just takes everything out of me like the good gold digging whore she is. And if you like nightlife, like I do,

An apartment rental in Brooklyn, particularly in Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, and Williamsburg will cost you just about as much as an apartment rental in Manhattan. So be sure the trade-offs are worth it to you. Otherwise, you’ll be saddling yourself with longer commute times and longer walking distances to grocery stores and other neighborhood merchants for very little extra space.
